A great hub here in Nairobi. We have sorted our visa's for Sudan. We had to get a letter of recommendation from our respective Embassies and then wait till the next day to pick up our visa's once they were lodged. A great place to restock for the next part of our trip. There are quite a few other travellers here but are heading south as we head north. A great social time here with everything we could need. A great place to swap information and do a mechanical check on the vehicle as well. A great place to just relax and enjoy before heading off again. The facilities here are magic at Jungle Junction in Lavington, Nairobi.
We head off in the morning after a few days of R & R here, provisioned and ready to go for the next part of our adventure. There has been rain here in Nairobi but hoping it isn't north of here to the border of Ethiopia or the road will be fun to travel. Lots of potholes and mud to traverse.

As soon as we crossed the border the scenery was just
delightful. So green still, crops
everywhere, mainly tea, bananas, corn and pineapple. People everywhere walking carrying their
goods. This time the ladies seemed to have a uniform roll of material in a
circle on their heads on which they supported whatever they were carrying. I just find it amazing what some people carry
and of course it is mainly the women who are carrying it. They must be very strong people. Tanzania was that littl... Continue reading...

Malawi
immigration and customs was very easy.
We were soon on our way to Senga
Bay on Lake
Malawi. As we drove along
we were very close to the Mozambique
border and then looking across the lake we could also see the hills of Mozambique
in the distance. Malawi was just beautiful. The scenery was amazing, the hills were
green. Again there were so many people
walking along the road and riding bicycles.
Families were on the bikes, seats on the back of the bikes for the
passenger to sit. L... Continue reading...

Zambia was a very quick stop. We headed off from Victoria Falls, immigration and customs were attended with relative ease. $50 US later for a visa, usual carbon tax and tolls for the roads and we were on our way. The currency was now kwachas – this time 4500 = $1 US. I went to the ATM and withdrew 1,000,000 kwachas converting to $240. Wow I feel like a millionaire. Zambia was semi dry, gentle rolling hills and straight roads. We stayed at the Eureka campsite on the outer edge of Lusaka. ... Continue reading...

I was a
little worried about going into Zimbabwe
after all the reports of problems here but it has been an absolutely brilliant
experience I could recommend to everyone. Things are improving here, we
can buy diesel, food and even get money from the ATM here at Victoria
Falls. The people are so helpful and incredibly nice
people. We have received the biggest smiles, the whitest teeth smile back
and waves as we go past. It was like going into a different world though
as soon as we crossed ... Continue reading...

Last Stop South
Africa…
We have had
the most wonderful week and every day so different it is unbelievable. We
have travelled each day, had hot weather, cold weather, rain, cloud and mist
but all at the right time. The cooler days have been great for the days
we have had to travel the longer distances. The rain was overnight so
apart from the zip on my whizz bang tent leaking all was good.
We headed off
early last Thursday on the 25th to head up to the Royal Natal
Na... Continue reading...

3 days to go and we will be heading off into the never never. Dave and Sheila, from the Cayman Islands, arrived this afternoon via London and Cape Town. Our route has already changed a little, it looks like Botwana will be a place we will need to visit another time. It is the wet season and the salt pans will be covered in water. The Chobe River might well be in flood. The plan now is to head further north east through South Africa and enter Zimbabwe. Like all good plans, again it may c... Continue reading...

We are planning our trip leaving at the end of February from Durban in South Africa. Nick, the owner of the Landrover Defender 110 has been busy making final plans. There will be 4 of us as far as Nairobi and then just Nick and I for the final leg to Cairo. Heading north from Durban, we will be travelling through Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan and finally Egypt. We would love to hear from anyone planning a similar trip and travelling at a similar time ... Continue reading...
